Description:
Mniej obcy (Less of a Stranger) is a 2026 Polish musical biographical drama inspired by the life and memories of legendary Lady Pank guitarist and co-founder Jan Borysewicz. Directed by Kristoffer Rus and written by Wiktor Piątkowski and Joanna Kozłowska, the film follows Borysewicz from his early years as a rebellious young musician to his rise as one of the defining figures of Polish rock. Mikołaj Bukrewicz makes his screen debut as Jan, portraying a guitarist determined to follow his own path in a world shaped by the restrictions and grey reality of late communist Poland. His passion for music becomes both an escape and a form of freedom, eventually leading to the formation and success of Lady Pank. Patryk Pietrzak plays lyricist Andrzej Mogielnicki, while Hubert Miłkowski, Krzysztof Oleksyn, Mikołaj Matczak and Marcel Barra portray the other members of the band. Kinga Preis and Ireneusz Czop appear as Jan's parents, while Mirosław Tomczuk portrays a younger version of Borysewicz. The story does not romanticize its protagonist, exploring the family tragedies, personal failures, conflicts with authorities and self-destructive tendencies that accompanied his success. Featuring songs by Lady Pank, Mniej obcy is both a portrait of a rock legend and a story about artistic freedom, ambition and the price of living according to your own rules.
