Description: Oraison, also known internationally as After the Ashes, is a Canadian drama and fantasy film written and directed by Laetitia Demessence. The story follows Leonor, a Mexican dancer who joins a contemporary dance company in Montreal while trying to uncover the mystery surrounding Oraison, a legendary dance piece performed by her mother thirty years earlier. Hoping to understand what happened to her mother and why the performance left such a profound mark on her life, Leonor begins immersing herself in the history of the mysterious work. As she gets closer to its origins, the boundaries between dance, memory and the supernatural begin to blur. The choreography becomes a ritual in which every movement seems capable of summoning ghosts from the past and reopening wounds that have been passed through generations. Diana León makes her feature-film debut as Leonor, alongside Francis Ducharme as Yvan, Louise Bédard as Ariane and Martin Dubreuil as Christian. Myriam Arsenault, Léa Noblet Di Ziranaldi, Clara Prieur, Silvia Sanchez and James Viveiros also appear in supporting roles. Blending contemporary dance with psychological drama and fantastical elements, Oraison explores family trauma, memory, artistic expression and the difficult process of confronting the past.
